CHINESE KNOTS FOR BEADED JEWELLERY

by Suzen Millodot

I have lived in several countries (England, Wales, Canada, USA, Hong Kong) and from each one I have discovered different sources of creative expression. I lived in Wales for many years and there my Celtic heritage asserted itself, with its rich historical and artistic traditions. I became fascinated by Celtic knot designs. I saw them carved in wood on Welsh Love spoons, I saw them printed onto fabric and painted onto ceramics. Beautiful Celtic knotwork adorns the borders of manuscripts and is used to create decorative alphabets. I became fascinated by their interlacing patterns. When I moved to Hong Kong and found ornamental knots that could actually be tied with cord, my fingers itched to start tying knots! The Jade Market sold such beautiful beads and pendants, my imagination started racing ahead with creative possibilities. As I tell you in my book, this is how the adventure began!

I show you how to create a beautiful array of original necklaces and bracelets using decorative Chinese knots, beads, pendants and semi-precious stones.

Simple knotted necklaces look elegant and stylish when combined with beautiful ceramic, metal or wooden beads. Just one knot with several beads is stunning. Matching bracelets catch the eye and can be worn on any occasion. Once the techniques are mastered, designs can be as extravagant, or as simple as you want – no specialist equipment is required and no special skills. The techniques are explained clearly with many detailed step-by-step photographs, accompanying diagrams and helpful advice, and inspirational projects are included to develop skills and inspire creativity.
