Introduction
The Button knot is my favourite knot, and I hardly ever make a necklace without using several of them. It is very attractive, with the cord weaving in and out of itself to form a perfect round ball. In Chinese tradition this seemingly endless pattern is considered a symbol of good luck, and it is a graphic representation of the cyclical nature of all existence in Chinese Buddhism. I have put the button knot in a separate section as it has so many useful variations. It can be tied with one end of a single cord, it can be tied round a second cord to form a sliding knot or a sequence of different coloured knots, and it can be tied with two cords. Other variations include a flat button knot and the double button knot which can even be tied with a single cord. |
